Webinar I: The European Digital Acts and the Metaverse: Fit for Purpose?

Last Monday, 5 June 2023, at 16:30 (CET), the Chair for the responsible development of the Metaverse held its first webinar entitled «The European Digital Acts and the Metaverse: Fit for Purpose?». 

Given the Commission’s Call for evidence related with the non-legislative initiative on virtual worlds metaverses  Teresa RODRIGUEZ DE LAS HERAS (Associate Professor of Commercial Law, University Carlos III) and Aurelio LÓPEZ-TARRUELLA (Associate Professor Private international law, University of Alicante) presented a draft paper on the topic. They received expert comments from discussants Christiana MARKOU (Associate Professor, European University Cyprus), and Jan KRÄMER (Chaired Professor of Information Systems, University of Passau). 

This webinar was moderated by Julián López Richart (Associate Professor Civil Law, University of Alicante. It delved into several inquiries regarding the Metaverse from a legal perspective. These included exploring the significant attributes of the Metaverse, identifying the key stakeholders involved, and assessing the compatibility of recent European legal provisions in terms of interoperability and their overall suitability for facilitating the metaverse.
